Latest Update: Google Search Console Announced The New Video Indexing Report

Latest Update: Google Search Console Announced The New Video Indexing Report
A few months ago, Google unveiled a new video indexing report in the Google Search Console. Now, Search Console announced a new report called the Video Indexing Report that helps you analyze the performance of your videos on Google and discover potential areas for improvement. However, Google will gradually implement this modification over the next few months, so you may not notice any changes for the time being.

So, What Exactly is a Video Indexing Report?

The Video Indexing Report displays the number of indexed pages on your site that contain one or more videos, as well as the number of pages on which a video could be indexed. The report, according to Google, can assist you in evaluating the performance of your videos on Google and highlighting potential areas for improvement. If Google identifies videos on your site, the video indexing report will be displayed in the coverage area on the left navigation bar. You will not see the report if Google has not found a video on your website.

What will it show?

The report displays the current state of video indexing on your website. It tells you the answers to the following questions.
  • How many pages has Google recognized as having a video?
  • Which videos were indexed effectively?
  • What are the problems that hinder videos from getting indexed?
Also, if you fix a problem that was already there, you can use the report to evaluate the fix and see how your video pages are updated in Google’s index.

Improved the URL Inspection Tool

Along with the new report, Google has also improved the URL Inspection tool to let you verify the progress of a particular page’s video indexing. If Google found a video on a page you were looking at, the following information would appear in the search results:
  • Information like the URLs for the thumbnail and the video.
  • The page’s status reveals whether or not the video was indexed.
  • Issues that prohibit the video from being indexed are listed.
This doesn’t apply to live inspection, which only shows if a video was found on the page being inspected and doesn’t tell you how video indexing is going.

Wrap up

Undoubtedly, the Video Indexing Report makes sense if you host videos on your site or embed videos on your site to see if there are ways to make those videos better or help other videos show up in Google Search. Videos are a big part of how people find things and how visible they are in Google Search. This Google help document goes into a lot more depth about this new report.
